2008-02-19 15:56:55 : Another year gone by...

A few quick notes:

Thanks to all who handed in feedback forms this year. Your comments are incredibly important to us. If you forgot to hand them in, or have more to say, please email us at feedback at shmoocon dot org.

Videos and slides will be up soon. Now that the ShmooCon staff is starting to wake up, we'll get working on this post haste. It will take some time - but our goal is to be done with it by sometime next week.

Need help remembering the rest of your weekend? Photo sets are rapidly appearing on Flickr. Have fun with that.

A huge thank you to our Speakers, Sponsors, and Staff. You rock.

And finally - thanks go out to you, the attendee.

w00t indeed.

2008-02-13 13:35:29 : Some things of note...

Lost barcodes:
If you have your transaction id you can regenerate your barcode. Otherwise, bringing id will be fine.

Metro Delays:
If you plan on getting to the conference by Metro this weekend, we strongly recommend you check their website for any service alerts before you travel. We are specifically concerned about this one detailing delays on the red, orange and blue lines for the weekend.

See you in a few days!

2008-02-07 13:32:03 :

One week to go until Con time! We're almost ready...are you?

All the speaker info is updated and online. So is the schedule.

New information has been placed under Contests and Events. Learn more about this year's T-Shirt Charities, the Podcaster's Meet-up, and Hack-or-Halo for now, but expect to see more fun stuff posted there in the next few days.

And now we'd like to take a moment to thank our Sponsors. ShmooCon 2008 wouldn't be what it is without their support.

See you soon!

2008-01-23 01:13:18 : Speaker Selection Finalized

The bulk of the information is on our speakers page with more to come.

Thanks to everyone who submitted.

2008-01-09 16:50:16 : ShmooCon 2008 Keynote - Edward W. Felten

ShmooCon and The Shmoo Group are pleased to announce that this year's keynote address will be given by Edward W. Felten.

Edward W. Felten is a Professor of Computer Science and Public Affairs at Princeton University, and is the founding Director of Princeton's Center for Information Technology Policy. His research interests include computer security and privacy, especially relating to media and consumer products; and technology law and policy. He has published about eighty papers in the research literature, and two books. His research on topics such as web security, copyright and copy protection, and electronic voting has been covered extensively in the popular press. His weblog, at freedom-to-tinker.com, is widely read for its commentary on technology, law, and policy.

He was the lead computer science expert witness for the Department of Justice in the Microsoft antitrust case, and he has testified in other important lawsuits. He has testified before the Senate Commerce Committee on digital television technology and regulation, and before the House Administration Committee on electronic voting. In 2004, Scientific American magazine named him to its list of fifty worldwide science and technology leaders.
More information on the rest of the speaker line-up coming real soon now.

2008-01-08 18:46:51 : Another Lead on Hotels

Rumor has it the Capital Hilton has some rooms.

2008-01-07 20:14:07 : More Hotel News

Well folks...

It looks like our room block is close to full. The hotel (not just our room block) is full for Friday night, but there are a few rooms remaining on Saturday. If you haven't made your room reservation yet, you might find yourself begging for floorspace from a friend. Or you could try some of these other local area hotels:

Kalorama Guest House
Washington Hilton
Omni Shoreham Hotel

Of course, we can't promise they have rooms either but at least it's a starting point.

2008-01-01 17:53:13 : Hotel Info

Posting this again so it's readily available:

The room block at the hotel is still open. Call in reservations can simply reference ShmooCon to get the discounted rate. Make your online reservations here.

Now go get some sleep!

See you in February!

(Oh and one more thing - don't write in asking about coupons for restricted tickets. They aren't available for general consumption.)

2007-12-01 17:18:29 : And they're outa here...

2007-11-30 19:05:53 : 2nd Round Ticket Sales

2007-09-10 02:26:23 : CFP Announced

The Shmoo Group is now soliciting papers and presentations for the forth annual ShmooCon. Information and submission instructions can be found here.

2007-09-01 18:53:54 : ShmooCon '08

Heya folks,

TSG is happy to announce that ShmooCon '08 will take place at the Wardman Park Marriott in Washington DC, February 15-17.

We're working on updating the website and getting information pushed out to the masses. Presentations are finally linked to (although they've been up for awhile - a number of you found them without any help) and moved into the Past Events section. Keep watching over the next few weeks as we get ready to release the CFP, announce contests and generally get the ball rolling for ShmooCon IV.

2007-03-28 11:41:16 : Hacker Arcade and the EFF

ShmooCon's Hacker Arcade and ShmooBall sales brought in over $1000 (although we still need to count the quarters). ShmooCon will match that and round it up to a healthy total of $2500 headed towards the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

2007-03-26 15:27:24 : Thank You!

So, wow. ShmooCon 3 is over and everyone seems to be in full on con recovery mode. The basement is once again full of boxes - although not quite as many as before. It's all good.

Thanks to everyone who showed up. We'd very much like to hear about your ShmooCon experience. Drop us a line at feedback@shmoocon.org and let us know what worked, what didn't and what kinds of things you'd like to see next year.

Also, we'll be working on getting the presentations up online soon, but for those of you who can't wait Media Archives has dvds available for purchase.

2007-03-01 03:48:08 : Final Speaker Selection

Speaker selection is finalized and online for your viewing pleasure. We're pleased to have Avi Rubin presenting our keynote address on Friday night. Check out the rest of the schedule too!

2007-02-22 15:08:46 : Get your barcodes!

Did your spam filter eat your barcode? We still want you to come to Shmoocon, so we've made our barcode system available online. If you have your Transaction ID and your email address used during registration, you can generate your barcode online!

2007-02-15 20:01:00 : Barcodes!

Barcodes will be sent out this Sunday, Feb 18th. But, not at midnight, so please don't write us at 12:01 asking us where they are. Look to your mailboxes for this information. And remember: There will be many barcodes, but the ones we send you are your own. Your barcode is your best friend. Without it, you cannot get into the con. Without the con, your barcode is useless. (Also each barcode can only be used once, so if you share it the first one in the door wins)

2007-02-01 17:13:17 : ShmooCon is Sold Out!

Thanks to everyone who purchased a ticket. We'll see you in March!

2007-01-19 21:48:26 : Things to Remember

The next (and last) round of tickets will go on sale Feb. 1st at noon EST.

You can still sign up for ShmooCon Labs and submit something to the Hacker Arcade.

Also, consider making your hotel reservations. There are still plenty of rooms available in the ShmooCon block...for now.
